Model 51 is one of Crosley's
oldest radio's. It was manufactured in 1924. I have the original
warranty card stapled to the top cover. It is in mint condition and
was purchased from a fellow collector in 1973. We connected two "B" 45
volt cylinder Eveready batteries for plate voltage to the two UV 199 tubes,
one "A" 6 volt for the filament and a Brandes Superior headphone to the set.
We heard two stations (in Syracuse) AM 620 WHEN and AM 1390 WFBL. While
tuning, the selectivity was poor but each 5 KW station was loud.

The Realistic Astronaut 8
multi-band receiver was introduced in the fall of 1972. My parents gave me a
new radio for Christmas 1972. I still have it and picked up another on Ebay
and my dad got one at a yard sale a few years ago. It has been a great DX
radio for years. I've logged many AM-FM stations since then. It was very
expensive, selling for $109.95 plus tax back in 1972. At least a whole weeks
pay.

This was my first transistor radio at the age of 13. My aunt
purchased it for me back in 1969 at a Zayre Department Store in Chicago at
the corner of Central and Milwaukee Avenues. I listened to a lot of WLS,
WCFL, WIND and WBBM with the Model 899.
